Help
This application operates entirely within your browser, storing all data locally. This means your data is private to you and available offline.
1. Job Functions
Broad functional areas within your organization (e.g., "Product Design", "Engineering", "Marketing"). These are high-level organizational units.
2. Company Values
A user-manageable list of core values or principles specific to your organization (e.g., "Customer Centricity", "Innovation First"). These are managed in the "Company Values" tab on the Categories page. They are used to group "Values and Leadership Capabilities" categories.
3. Categories
Thematic groupings for interview questions. Examples: "Problem Solving", "Communication", "Teamwork". Categories have types:
- Core Skill: Foundational skills generally relevant to one or more Job Functions.
- Influence: Areas of influence relevant to one or more Job Functions.
- Specialized Skill: Specific technical or domain-specific skills relevant to one or more Job Functions.
- Values and Leadership Capabilities (VLC): Global values or leadership traits, linked to a user-defined Company Value (Parent Value). These are applicable to all job functions.
4. Job Titles (Roles)
Specific job titles or roles, including their level (e.g., "Senior Product Designer (IC3)", "Engineering Manager (M2)"). Each job title is associated with one primary Job Function.
5. Questions
The individual interview questions. Each question is linked to a Category, a target Role (IC or Leadership), and a primary Job Function (for questions under global categories like VLCs, this will be the internal "Global (System)").
Initial App Setup / Data Import
When you first use InterviewScribe or if your data is cleared, the Home page will prompt you to upload a setup file. This should be a JSON file previously exported from InterviewScribe (using the "Export All App Data (JSON)" option in Settings). This file contains all your Job Functions, Categories, Job Titles, and Questions. It should conform to Schema Version 1.1. If the JSON file contains VLC categories with Parent Values not currently in your Company Values list, those Parent Values will be automatically added to your list.
Alternatively, you can import data for individual types using CSV files via the Settings page. Remember to define your Company Values first via the Categories page if you plan to import VLC categories via CSV.
Data Export
From the Settings page, you can:
- Export all core application data (Job Functions, Categories, Job Titles, Questions, Interview Metadata) as a single JSON file. This is useful for backups or transferring your entire setup.
- Export a full backup of all interviews including notes as a separate JSON file.
- Export data for individual types (Categories, Questions, etc.) as CSV files.
1. Create a new interview, providing candidate details, job role, and date. Assign relevant categories for the interview rubric.
2. Select specific questions from your library based on the chosen categories and role. These will pre-fill the "Raw Notes" section.
3. During the interview, take notes in the "Raw Notes" area (supports Markdown). Add more questions on the fly if needed.
4. After the interview, complete the "Evaluation Summary" (supports Markdown) and provide an overall rating.
5. Use the "Generate Summary" button to get a consolidated text output of the interview details, notes, and summary, which you can copy or download.
Data Deletion
The Settings page allows you to delete data for specific types or all application data (including Company Values). This action is permanent and cannot be undone. Export your data first if you want to keep a backup.
Debug View & Application Constants
For advanced users or troubleshooting, the Debug View page shows the raw JSON data stored in your browser for each data entity. This can be helpful for understanding the current state of your application's data.
Open Debug ViewYou can also find a read-only list of key application constants (like predefined Category Types, Question Roles, etc.) on the Settings page.
InterviewScribe is designed to work offline. All your data is stored locally in your browser. You can also "install" this application to your homescreen on supported devices (desktop and mobile) for a more app-like experience. Look for an install icon in your browser's address bar or menu.
